About Us
Dr. Lorenz & Colleagues focuses on both highly specialized psychological evaluations for various purposes and, treatment approaches. Treatment can consist of both in-person consultation as scheduled or alternatively, Dr. Lorenz is using several platforms to conduct remote/virtual assessment and treatment. Treatment can be brief in many cases and can consist of pointing someone in the right direction or, can be more long-term, depending on both need and objective.
Dr. Lorenz currently makes use of an integration of all applicable treatment approaches with an emphasis on the use of hypnosis and hypnotherapy. While hypnosis in and by itself is not a designated “treatment”, it is a vehicle which is highly effective in enhancing other modalities of treatment, and often leads to better results than those treatment methods which are conducted with a different, and mostly talk, approach. For more information about the use of hypnosis and hypnotherapy, and its possible benefits, an introductory conversation with Dr. Lorenz or her assistant can be arranged.
Dr. Lorenz has trained for decades in the application of methods using hypnosis and is currently training with Dr. Michael Yapko, psychologist, whose practice is in the United States. For a better understanding of the approaches and methodologies inherent in this type of treatment, you may visit the websites of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH) and Dr. Michael Yapko’s website.
Dr. Lorenz is offering more treatment programs which also focus on the use of hypnosis. She further collaborates with colleagues and including medical colleagues and refers for Ketamine assisted treatment. She is preparing to offer a newly designed group treatment program which teaches coping strategies and helps clients learn how to use self-hypnosis.

Whether you have questions about something that worries or concerns you, or perhaps noticed signs that something is not quite the same in your functioning, in how you feel, we want you to feel welcome to come to us and ask the questions which can help you decide what to do next.
This could be just feeling reassured right in the moment, or, taking a first step towards prevention. We would like to help you decide on the course of action that will make sense to you and offer some relief from the pressure that may be part of what you experience when you are not sure. Most of all, we want to offer you a feeling of welcome that will enable you to take a step in the direction of health and quality of life when the balance starts to slip.
We are especially experienced in helping police officers, paramedics, firefighters, and other “helpers”, in preventing a deterioration in functioning, in getting well when there are already signs of that loss of balance, and in staying well when the hard work of getting well has already been done.
We have worked extensively with police officers and other helpers. So you might find that from the perspective of professional training and experience, but also from the perspective of personality and life experience, we understand very well the pressures and challenges that you may be dealing with…..and how much may be at stake.
PTSD
If you are not sure, or need more information, please read more about triaging for signs of difficulties, PTSD and other disorders, what PTSD is and what it is not.
Ketamine assisted treatments
Dr. Lorenz offers hypnotic approaches which do not require the use of Ketamine but frequently refers to a colleague who does offer Ketamine assisted treatments. She has recently designed a closed group treatment program that specifically addresses recovery and coping skills for front-line healthcare workers and first responders.
FEES AND COVERAGE OF SERVICES
Psychological intervention and consultations are predominantly reimbursed by all extended health benefit programs. Typically, a receipt is issued after every consultation and this receipt is used for reimbursement by the health plan you have. In cases where employee health benefits for psychologists are limited, the psychologist can assess and recommend a short and efficient plan that will provide the most benefit. Where there is a need for a more detailed evaluation psychological testing may be used to determine any potential differential diagnosis needed to continue the process. Psychological services provided by psychologists are covered by WSIB and various insurance plans including disability insurance. If you are not certain a call to your insurer or extended health benefits carrier may be helpful.
REMOTE/VIRTUAL ASSESSMENT & TREATMENT
Currently, Dr. Lorenz is working in collaboration with Dr. Dawn DeCunha, learn more about her here. In addition,
Dr. Lorenz is working in a practice alliance where she is collaborating with other qualified psychologists, psychotherapists, and a physician. More details will be disclosed shortly.
As the pandemic comes to an end, the use of virtual platforms, in combination with in-person evaluation and treatment, will continue, as it has been established that clients report that receiving treatment from their own environments to have been very beneficial. This is especially true in cases where individuals are experiencing high levels of anxiety and who have initial difficulties with travel.
